Taking your car for a routine oil check up is very much like having your own hair undergo regular hot oil treatment, (assuming of course you have hair). Dirty oil running through your car’s engine is definitely not a good thing to have, and having it checked also allows the experts to check out the rest of your car for potential problems.
Some say that you should do oil change for your car every three months, and some say that you should do this every 3,000 miles traveled. If it comes out black (or any color close to it), then your car definitely needs an oil change pronto, as a light brown transparent color is what you should be looking for. You might notice that with an older car, you might have to have this routine oil changes more often compared to a newer car. You may also have to change your oil filter when you do this. Do not wait for the oil in your car to turn black – once it becomes murky, it is not protecting the engine as good as it should be.
