Wall fountains are beautiful and elegant fixtures for any home or office. And to keep them that way it is incredibly important that you thoroughly read and understand the maintenance section of your fountain’s user guide.
You should have a ready supply of the different cleaning compounds your fountain uses and you should know if these compounds are safe for ingestion and poison control. Many a pet has had a bad experience drinking from, essentially, a poisoned water source before their owners realized what was going on. Of course, using safer, more natural cleaners may mean that you need to manually clean your fountain more often (six months is a good rule of thumb, pay attention to the water color and smell to know better).
Also it is important that you only use de-ionized or distilled water in your fountain. Wall fountains are expensive pieces and you do not want to harm that investment by using water which possesses, even in trace amounts, compounds like chlorine and fluorine which over time can stain and varnish your fountain’s surface. Although your fountain may slowly change color over its lifetime, especially with materials like copper, harmful compounds added to city water will accelerate the process. Treatments to restore the appearance of your fountain, when available, may be expensive and incontinent. Best to avoid the situation.
With a little foresight and preparation, your fountain can last many years and impart all the benefits a good indoor fountain possesses. Without that foresight an expensive and beautiful investment may have its lifespan cut drastically short.
